Adult Direct Service Volunteers
The volunteer program at Tipton Hospital furthers our mission of improving the physical and mental health of the patients we serve. Volunteers enhance the work of hospital personnel by providing assistance to professional staff and obtaining support in the community.
Volunteers at Tipton Hospital are both men and women, ages 18 and up, with many different backgrounds and abilities.

The following departments provide volunteer opportunities:
- Case Management
- provide daily activities to patients
- Health Department
- assist on Wednesdays to prepare for Vaccination clinic on Thursdays
- Health Ministry
- assist the Health Ministry Coordinator with patient visits, clerical duties, and program planning
- Human Resources
- assist with general office duties
- Information Desk
- Greet and direct visitors, fill out dietary sheets, deliver mail and newspapers, answer phones, make chaplain calls, record and deliver flowers, update magazines, tidy waiting areas, perform miscellaneous clerical duties as requested, and other tasks as requested.
- Pharmacy
- duties performed under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist may include replenishing dispensing supplies, delivering supplies to patient care areas, and ring up out-patient customers.
- Rehabilitation Services
- duties may include Transfer out-patients, making copies, cleaning booths, refilling ice cups, getting coffee/water for waiting room, getting laundry, delivering in-house mail, filing, and making charts for new patients
- Surgery Transport
- duties may include transporting and discharging patients, delivering blood draws to lab, answering phone, taking drinks to patient room, and helping sticker patient charts
- Surgery Waiting Room
- duties include greeting visitors and making notes on surgery schedule, informing visitors of transfer of patient to recovery and when patient is back in room, and informing surgery staff of concerned visitors
How to Get Involved
To become a Direct Service Volunteer at Tipton Hospital, the following must occur:
- The prospective volunteer will complete a direct service volunteer application and return to the volunteer coordinator. To obtain an application, please call 675-8214 or stop by the hospital as ask for the volunteer coordinator
- Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, and former employees of Tipton Hospital who are ineligible for rehire are prohibited from volunteers at Tipton Hospital
- The applicant is then interviewed by the volunteer coordinator to determine the applicant’s areas of interest and to match them with current hospital needs and to provide the applicant with an overview of the goals and objectives of the direct service volunteer program
- The applicant’s references will be checked by the volunteer coordinator, as well as the completion of a background check.
- The volunteer will be scheduled for volunteer orientation, to see the Occupation Health Department for required TB testing.
- The volunteer will be scheduled to be oriented by an experienced volunteer or staff member in the area of their service
- Following the successful completion of their orientation and all necessary health requirements, the volunteer may work independently in their assigned area.
- The volunteer will be added to the master schedule and to the active direct service volunteer list.
